4. New Business:
The following program change proposals were approved on the CIM Program Report. The program change proposals will be forwarded for consideration to the Faculty
Senate, meeting scheduled for December 4, 2024.
a. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural,
Food, and Life Sciences, School of Human Environmental Sciences – HDFS-M – Human Development
and Family Sciences Minor presented by Lona Robertson.
Students are required to choose six hours from a list of three courses (HDFS 34203;
HDFS 34403; HDFS 34503) instead of choosing from a much larger list of HDFS upper-level
courses. This change still allows students who are minors in HDFS to take core courses
and key upper-level courses in HDFS and be awarded the minor. In addition, the change
will reduce enrollment in key courses that are being marked for HDFS majors only.
Reducing those class sizes enables higher level instruction for HDFS majors.
b. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of Arts and Sciences Dean – ARSC Acad Regs – ARSC College Academic Regulations
presented by Shane Barker.
Revision to the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences Graduation Requirements section

Students must earn a minimum of 30 semester hours at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
campus – this includes UA faculty-led study abroad classes, online/on-campus classes,
and Global Campus courses; and all other courses paid towards Fayetteville campus
tuition and fees. These 30 semester hours are to be upper-division semester hours
required for the completion of a degree program. Additional hours in residence can
be required for completing a minor. Hours earned in another school or college at UA,
Fayetteville, may be used to satisfy this requirement with approval of appropriate
faculty curriculum committee.
2b. Removed original bullet point 2b:
College Residency Requirement and 24 Hour Rule

Students graduating from Fulbright College must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.
5. Removed original bullet point 5:
Writing Requirement
Students graduating from Fulbright College must write a research/analytical paper
for at least one upper-division course in his or her major. Each department has determined
its own procedures for certifying completion of this requirement. Questions should
be referred to the departmental chairperson. A student may choose to write a senior
thesis in a major area of study. The thesis may be accorded up to six hours of credit.
Defense of the thesis before a committee is required. Satisfactory completion of an
honors project or a senior thesis may be submitted to meet the college writing requirement.

reducing overall size of required ENGL courses by 6 hrs.
5. Replacing ENGL 20503, 20603, 20703, and 20803 with ENGL 26503, 26603, 26703, and
26803 (the original ACTS equivalent survey courses)
6. Simplifying the pre and post 1800 literature requirement by removing the rule that
some classes must be 40000 level and adding list of specific classes to catalog.
d. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of English – ENGLBA-LICU – English: Literature and Cultural Studies Concentration
presented by Shane Barker.
1. Updated 8 semester plan to reflect changes in the ENGLBA core
2. Added short description of the concentration.
3. added ENGL 31003 as a requirement since it was removed from the core so the concentration
would still meet GELO 6.1
4. Changed the concentration requirements so that each course would not need to be
approved individually by dept.
5. Changed name of concentration to better reflect intended nature (and not rely in
Topical lists of classes that were never created).
e. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of Geosciences – GEOGBS – Geography, Bachelor of Science presented by Shane
Barker.
Complete reorganization of the degree from a BA to a BS. See attached before and after
document for detailed changes.
General change summary:
1. Created a common core that all Geography majors will complete, which includes a
capstone course that meets GELO 6.1.
2. Creation of 3 equally sized concentrations that offer students the opportunity
to specialize
3. Set the degree up in size to easily pair with other majors/degrees on campus due
to having 38 hrs of general electives. (additional information about the changing
size of the major: The Geography BS major will be focused on student training in geography
and the geosciences more broadly. This emphasis has resulted in the reduction of redundant
courses in the major (e.g., rather than both Human Geography and World Regional Geography,
students will take only one) and the elimination of the world language requirement
in line with other BS degrees in Fulbright College.)
4. Updated program goals/objectives and Learning outcomes to reflect the changes to
the degree.
The Geosciences department is proposing changing the undergraduate degree in Geography
from a Bachelor of Arts to a Bachelor of Science. There are three primary motivations
for doing so. First, this change helps to consolidate the place of the geography degree
at Arkansas in the larger universe of STEM fields. Geography is recognized as a discipline
that combines the social and physical sciences through the use of spatial analysis
and techniques. Second, transitioning to a BS degree will bring our program in line
with proximate peer institutions, including the University of Kansas, the University
of Oklahoma, and Louisiana State University, which all offer BS Geography degrees.
Third, the accompanying curriculum revision ensures that undergraduate geography majors
have a capstone course in the major and also a clear path to graduation with three
newly established concentrations (in human geography, technical geography, and general
geography) that allow students to focus their interest across the diverse discipline
that is geography. Other proximate peer institutions, including the University of
Texas-Austin, also offer concentrations within geography to allow undergraduate students
to focus their studies.

l. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of Music – MUSC Dept Honors – Music Departmental Honors presented by Shane
Barker.
Enhancing quality and sustainability of honors program by replacing departmental honors
with a common college honors curriculum.
m. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of Psychological Sciences – PSYC-M – Psychology Minor presented by Shane
Barker.
1. Requesting to add online delivery
2. Changed the following line from this (these are retired courses):
A maximum of three hours of PSYC 2060V and/or PSYC 2070V can be counted toward meeting
the minor requirement.
To this:
A maximum of three hours of PSYC 2810V, PSYC 3810V, PSYC 4090V, and/or PSYC 4810V
can be counted toward meeting the minor requirement.
We plan to create an opportunity to complete a minor in psychology in an online only
version in addition to the face to face version. Psychology is an extremely popular
minor and we believe it would be popular via online delivery as well. We are approaching
400 minors in our face to face offering. Providing an online minor would provide opportunities
for students who are unable to attend face to face classes due to mobility issues
to complete a minor in psychology. This change also allows the minor to become part
of the online interdisciplinary studies BA, increasing variety in that program.
n. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences,
School of Art – ARHSBA – Art History, Bachelor of Arts presented by Shane Barker.
1. Removed world language requirement
2. Adding a note that students can request permission to count ARHS 100H3 in lieu
of either ARHS 20003 or 21003
3. Updated group 1 and group 2 lists to add more class options
4. Reducing requirement to take 6 hrs of ARHS 49703, ARHS 47603 or 476H3 to 3 hrs
5. Removed this requirement:
"An additional 3 credit hours in art history (ARHS) numbered 3000-level or higher
or studio art (ARTS) electives."
and replaced with:
"6 Credit hours in art history (ARHS) electives numbered 4000 level"
6. Changed this requirement:
"9 credit hours from outside the School of Art (as approved by an advisor)"
To this:
"15 credit hours from outside Art History in an allied field, including Studio Art
(ARTS), Art Education (ARED), Graphic Design (GDES), or humanities fields (AAST, ANTH,
CLST, ENGL, GNST, HIST, HUMN, MRST, MUSY, PHIL, THTR, WLIT, or any classes from the
WLLC department including any world language course) in Fulbright College (or other
courses as approved by Art History Faculty)"
1. Offering more flexibility in the degree to allow for more double majoring (World
language classes will be an option in a different requirement)
2. Allows more flexibility in this requirement and to provide more entrance points
into the major (i.e. students might take ARHS 100H3 and decide to add the major. The
department decided not to include AHS 10003 in this option due to the much larger
class sizes and more general format.)
3. Offers more flexibility. Updates program to include classes that have been created
in the last 3-4 years.
4. Allows program to meet GELO 6.1 without having to offer both classes each year.
(Overall number of ARHS hours not changing. So, allows more flexibility in the upper-level
ARHS classes)
5. In addition to the change in item 4, this change keeps the major the same size
for ARHS classes but provides more structure in electives (i.e. 6 hrs need to be 40000+
plus 6 hrs which can be 30000+) This sets up a planned future change to add more 30000
level options, better distinguishing between 30000 and 40000 level classes.
6. Provides more structure to this requirement to remove the need for faculty to approve
each class. Keeping world languages as an option in the major allows students planning
to attend grad school to take the recommended language courses, which is included
as a footnote.
