  1. The minutes for the September 22, 2017 meeting were approved.

  2. Course Change Proposals:

EDST 3003:  America Reads – James Gigantino moved to table the course because it was too similar to ENGL 2173. The Department of English would like to be consulted to consider expanding the enrollment to accommodate EDST students.

After a lengthy discussion, Ketevan Mamiseishvili agreed to withdraw the course from the agenda. Course was rolled back to EDUC Dean approval level in CourseLeaf.

All other course change proposals were approved without opposition. The approved courses are listed on the CIM Course Report created by CourseLeaf and will be forwarded for consideration as appropriate to the:

    • Faculty Senate, meeting scheduled for November 8, 2017
    • Graduate Council meeting scheduled for November 16, 2017

  3. Old Business:

    None

  4. New Business:

The following program change proposals were approved on the CIM Program Report with one exception. See item ac. The program changes will be forwarded for consideration as appropriate to the:

    • Faculty Senate, meeting scheduled for November 8, 2017
    • Graduate Council meeting scheduled for November 16, 2017

      1. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Agri Food and Life Sciences Dean – AFLS Honors – Bumpers College Honors Requirements was presented by Leslie Edgar.

The existing AFLS 3413H - Honors Proposal Development course is being modified   to add components of research methods. Over the past decade, it has been noted that Honors students require more formalized instruction in proposal development and research methods. Adding AFLS 3413H - Honors Proposal Development and Research Methods as a required course to the Bumpers College (AFLS) Honors Program will promote student success in completion of the honors thesis/project and reduce one-on-one time required with faculty mentors. Other changes to the program are grammatical to update the Undergraduate Catalog (4a_ AFLS Honors report).

      2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences – CPSC-M – Crop Science Minor was presented by Michael R. Evans.

CSES 3322 is one of the production courses that should be an option on the list and was inadvertently left off the list of options. This change fixes an error in the check sheet list (4b_CPSC-M report, 4b_18-19-cpsc-m MS edits.docx).

      3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences – BRKDBS –  Birth Through Kindergarten, Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences was presented by Laura Herold.

Removed the course HESC 1501 Issues and Trends in Human Environmental Sciences (1 credit). Added 1 hour to the general electives for the major. The course content of HESC 1501 Issues and Trends in Human Environmental Sciences (1 credit) is not relevant to students studying birth through kindergarten education. It had previously been included because we believed that it was needed for school-level AAFCS accreditation. However, this has changed and the course is being dropped by other HESC majors. For these reasons we are removing it from the BRKD teacher licensure degree plan (4c_BRKDBS report).

      4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences – FNAHBS – Food, Nutrition and Health, Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Science was presented by Mechelle Bailey.

The current Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation major has three concentrations: Nutrition and Dietetics, General Foods and Human Nutrition, and Hospitality Innovation. This proposal reorganizes the program by offering three Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation majors: 1) Human Nutrition and Dietetics, 2) Food, Nutrition and Health, and 3) Hospitality Management. Two minors are proposed for Hospitality Management: 1) Event Management and 2) Hospitality Management.

The proposed changes allow Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation students to receive a diploma designative of their coursework and chosen academic field. This will assist our students in ensuring they will have a greater opportunity to gain career positions in the industry for whom their diploma was awarded. Changing the name from Hospitality Innovation to Hospitality Management is more indicative of the coursework being studied in the hospitality curriculum. The re-configuration of the General Foods and Nutrition degree and change of name to Food, Nutrition and Health is designed to meet student needs for a sustainable, viable and useful degree, for students who need a different pathway other than Human Nutrition and Dietetics to complete as opposed to being unsuccessful in the pursuit of a degree. It is proposed that the General Foods and Nutrition minor become a minor in Human Nutrition to more accurately reflect the content.

The Board of Advisors indicated that the program name change is more indicative of what the program is: Human Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospitality Management. The word dietetics needs to be included to direct students who are searching for that major. The word, Innovation is too broad and difficult to define; therefore, it is being replaced by the word Management. Management better describes what the hospitality program is teaching. This change is encouraged and supported by both the hospitality students, nutrition and dietetics students, and both the NUTR and HOSP Board of Advisors (4d_  FNAHBS report, 4d_ 18_19 FNAH final.docx, 4d_18_19 FNAH 8sdcp final.docx4d_BSHES – HNHI – Reconfig – Ltr of Notification.docx, 4d_HNHIBS – Deletion – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences - HNADBS – Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Science was presented by Mechelle Bailey.

The proposed changes allow Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation students receive a diploma designative of their coursework and chosen academic field. 6. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences - HDFSBS – Human Development and Family Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Science was presented by Laura Herold.

HDFS will be adding a new required course Pre-Internship in Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS 4481) as a required course. The program will no longer require Issues and Trends in HESC (HESC 1501).  The reason for this change is to improve the experience of the internship for HDFS students. The internship was recently added to the curriculum for HDFS students to get more practical experience in working with people and families. The pre-internship will provide prepare students for professional and ethical behaviors while conducting their internships (4f_HDFSBS report).

      7. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences - HOSP-M – Hospitality Management Minorwas presented by Kelly Way.

Due to overwhelming student requests from outside the program for a minor in hospitality management, the program has developed and is requesting to implement this minor. There is a huge demand for graduates in the field of hospitality management and the board of advisors for the hospitality program fully encourage and support this new minor (4g_HOSP-M report, 4g_HOSP-M – New Option – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      8. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Human Environmental Sciences - NUTR-M – Human Nutrition Minor was presented by Mechelle Bailey.

Change title and update courses. To provide clear focus/purpose for the Minor (4h_NUTR-M report, 4h_NUTR-M – Name Change – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      9. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Arts and Sciences Dean – ARSC Honors – ARSC College Honors Requirements was presented by Jim Gigantino.

Adding more honors core options in Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, while also clarified requirement language. Changed director's name. Changed admission requirements. With the addition of new state approved core classes, the Honors Council voted to expand the FCHP honors core to include these new course options for honors students. Our Director changed. The Honors College encouraged us to increase the entering GPA and the Honors Council approved that as well (4i_ARSC Honors report).

      10. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of English – ENGLBA – English, Bachelor of Arts was presented by Jim Gigantino.

WLIT 1123 is already required for the English B.A. and for the English and Journalism combined B.A. Both the Department of English and the Department of Journalism have long allowed students to substitute a WLIT course numbered 3000 or higher, or a literature course numbered 3000 or higher in the World Languages and Literatures Department, for the WLIT 1123 requirement when desired, but although this allowed substitution is in the portion of the catalog that describes the English and Journalism combined B.A., it never got put into the part of the catalog that describes the requirements for the English B.A. Any WLIT or world literature course at the 3000- or 4000-level is a more difficult, more in-depth version of what is taught in WLIT 1123, so no student can be hurt by our allowing that substitution, and many students may be motivated to take these more challenging courses if they meet the requirement.

MATH 1313: this change will bring Department of English requirements more in line with the State Core, which allows MATH 1313 to satisfy the Core Math requirement. In addition, the Provost’s Office tells us that MATH 1313 is a good course for English Majors, helping them make it through the degree.

Diversity Requirement.  Adding specificity to which courses count towards the requirement, while also including new courses that have been proposed (4j_ENGLBA report).

      11. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of History – EUST Combined Major – European Studies Combined Major was presented by Jim Gigantino.

The EUST program lacks sufficient faculty participation to maintain a full curriculum, and this has led to a drop-off in majors. The program will be replaced with a new concentration in INST that utilizes existing INST courses (4k_EUST Combined Major report).

      12. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of History – EUST Dept Honors – European Studies Departmental Honors was presented by Jim Gigantino.

EUST has insufficient faculty to sustain a full curriculum, which has resulted in a drop-off in majors. EUST will be replaced with a new concentration in INST, which will draw on existing INST courses (4l_EUST Dept Honors report).

      13. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of History – EUST-M – European Studies Minor was presented by Jim Gigantino.

EUST has insufficient faculty to maintain a full curriculum, which has led to a drop-off in majors and minors. EUST will be replaced by a new concentration in INST, which draws on existing INST courses (4m_EUST-M report,    4m_EUST-M – Inactivation – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      14. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences – STAT-M – Statistics Minor was presented by Jim Gigantino.

We are removing the term "non-cross-listed" from the requirement of 12 hours of non-cross-listed courses in the statistics section of this catalog, in order to not exclude STAT 3013 which is now a cross-listed course (4n_STAT-M report).

      15. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice – SOCIBA – Sociology, Bachelor of Arts was presented by Jim Gigantino.

Added MATH 1313 to list of MATH options to 8-semester degree plan. The state of Arkansas is working on developing new pathways for students to get their mathematics training. There has been a recent push to diversify the pathways by which students can meet their basic degree requirements in Mathematics (4o_SOCIBA report).

      16. Proposed undergraduate program change for Walton College of Business, Department of Business Dean - WCOB Honors – WCOB College Honors Requirements was presented by Karen Boston.

Added course options to 4a under Walton Scholars program and Departmental Scholars program. Update and expand course options to fulfill colloquium requirements (4p_WCOB Honors report).

      17. Proposed undergraduate program change for Walton College of Business, Department of Finance – FINNBS-FNRM – Risk Management Concentration was presented by Karen Boston.

Changing name of concentration from Insurance to Risk Management. The term Risk Management is now more commonly used in the business community and it has a wider coverage than insurance. This change in name will also move us into the current form and content of the concentration that, internationally, companies are recruiting and hiring. The fundamental construct of our courses will not be affected by this namechange (4q_FINNBS-FNRM report, 4q_FINNBS-FNRM – Name Change – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      18. Proposed undergraduate program change for Walton College of Business, Department of Marketing - RETLBS – Retail, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration was presented by Karen Boston.

Changing required courses of SCMT 3623, 3643, or SCMT 4633 to SCMT 3653 and three hours from 3000/4000 level SCMT courses. Expand course options to fulfill requirements for supply chain management course requirements within the Retail Major concentrations (4r_RETLBS report).

      19. Proposed undergraduate program change for Walton College of Business, Department of Supply Chain Management - WSCM-M – Supply Chain Management Minor for Business Students was presented by Karen Boston.

Changed from 15 hours of options to requiring 6 credit hours from SCMT 3443 and SCMT 3613. Also adding course options of SCMT 4003H, SCMT 4123, SCMT 4853, and up to 3 credit hours of WCOB 330V or WCOB 310V. Update and expand opportunities for supply chain management courses and related courses to meet requirements for the minor for business majors (4s_WSCM-M report).

      20. Proposed undergraduate program change for Walton College of Business, Department of Supply Chain Management - SCMT-M – Supply Chain Management Minor for Non-Business Students was presented by Karen Boston.

Changing required courses of SCMT 3633 and SCMT 3643 to six hours of options from 3000/4000 SCMT courses. Expand opportunities for supply chain management courses to fulfill requirements for the business minor for non-business majors with a supply chain management concentration (4t_SCMT-M report).

      21. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Eleanor Mann School of Nursing - NURSBS-RNBN – Nursing RN to BSN Concentration was presented by Susan Patton.

        1. Changing NURS 4603 Nursing Concepts: Communities to NURS 4063
        2. Changing NURS 4112 Teaching and Health Promotion to NURS 4023
        3. Changing NURS 4722 to NURS 4092
These changes resulted in one hour increase to RN to BSN Professional Nurse Program. One hour was removed from electives in Additional Program Requirement in order to keep total hours at 120.

During accreditation visit, evaluators recommended making course numbers and names different from the pre-licensure BSN program in order to distinguish the courses for the RN_BSN student population. 1 hour credit added to NURS 4023 along with content and assessments to provide more health promotion content to BSN students. The health promotion content distinguishes the BSN program of study from the Associate degree program. This change increased the U of A hours from 29 to 30. 1 hour was deleted from electives to keep total hours at 120 (4u_NURS-RNBN report).

      22. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation - PBHLBS – Public Health, Bachelor of Science was presented by Steve Dittmore.

Editing public health core classes to meet accreditation requirements of the Council on Education for Public Health. A change in CIM which will parallel this program change will be to make PBHL 2613 PBHL 3613 as the course content will need to change to meet accreditation requirements. Additionally, this will make the program in compliance with ADHE guidelines.

Program also changed the option of ENGL 3053 or JOUR 1033 to requiring ENGL 3053. STAT options have been reduced from four possibilities to only two options of STAT 2303 or ESRM 2403 (4v_PBHLBS report).

      23. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communication Disorders – HRWDBS – Human Resource and Workforce Development Education, Bachelor ofScience in Educationwas presented by Kate Mamiseishvili.

The PSYC requirement for the program has been removed. This allows students the flexibility to choose any social science class to satisfy the university core requirement.

The Economic requirements to be admitted into the major remain the same. We clarified that these classes are part of the Pre-HRWD requirements instead of the university core.  Clarification for the catalog.

The Pre-HRWD Math requirement can also satisfy the University's core requirement. The faculty determined that students will only need to complete 3 hours of math chosen from the list of four courses: MATH 2183, MATH 2053, STAT 2303, or MATH 1313. If students have completed one of the four courses as part of the University core, no additional math courses are needed. Clarification for the catalog (4w_HRWDBS report).

      24. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness – AGECMS – Agricultural Economics, Master of Science was presented by Michael R. Evans.

Changed Other Requirements from "Maximum of 9 hours at the 4000 level" to "Maximum of 9 hours from (a) graduate courses cross listed with courses numbered 4000 or lower and/or (b) courses numbered 4000 or lower."  Many formally 4000 level courses have been switched to 5000 level courses. In the case of the AEAB department, this was done without faculty knowledge or consent and resulted in a de facto curriculum change as it permitted more than 9 hours of dual-credit classes. The change being proposed above brings the curriculum back into alignment with its original intent prior to the change in numbering systems (4x_AGECMS report).

      25. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness – AGECMS-AGBS – Agricultural Economics Agribusiness Concentration was presented by Michael R. Evans.

Six hours are being affected by this minor change. AGEC 5413 is being moved from one block of courses to another and AGEC 5603 is being added as an option. Many formally 4000 level courses have been switched to 5000 level courses. In the case of the AEAB department, this was done without faculty knowledge or consent and resulted in a de facto curriculum change as it permitted more than 9 hours of dual-credit classes. The change being proposed above brings the curriculum back into alignment with its original intent prior to the change in numbering systems (4y_AGECMS-AGBS report).

      26. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness – AGECMS-INAG – Agricultural Economics International Agribusiness Concentrationwas presented by Michael R. Evans.

Three hours are being affected by this minor change. AGEC 5603 is being added as an option. Many formally 4000 level courses have been switched to 5000 level courses. In the case of the AEAB department, this was done without faculty knowledge or consent and resulted in a de facto curriculum change as it permitted more than 9 hours of dual-credit classes. The change being proposed above brings the curriculum back into alignment with its original intent prior to the change in numbering systems (4z_AGECMS-INAG report).

      27. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Art – ARTMFA – Art, Master of Fine Arts was presented by Kristin Musgnug.
        1. Changing "Major and/or minor areas of study" in the program description of areas of study to "focused studies." We no longer require a minor area of study.

        2. Changing minimum number of semesters required for completion of the degree from four to six. We are standardizing our program at 3 years.

        3. Instead of requiring ARTS 5913 to be taken twice, we are dividing the Graduate Seminar requirement into a First Year Seminar and a Second Year Seminar. With these two new courses we will be able to tailor seminar content to the differing needs of first and second year MFA's.

        4. Addition of an option to take 15 elective hours instead of 12, for those students meeting a minimum level of Art History coursework prior to entering the program (see change #5, below). Provide more options for students able to elect 9 hours of art history (see change #5, below).

        5. Reduction in the number of credit hours of elective Art History required for this students entering the program with at least 12 hours of college-level Art History. While we recognize the importance of Art History study to the MFA student, the 12 credit requirement is higher than at most of our peer institutions. Most students graduating with a BFA have taken at least 12 hours of undergraduate Art History. MFA's are still free to take additional Art History coursework if desired.

        6. Instead of requiring "regular thesis progress reports" from MFA candidates, we require regular meetings with the thesis committee. Face to face meetings are much more productive.

        7. Changing the requirement that all faculty and all graduate students attend the critique of every student to "a selection of graduate faculty and MFA students". With 25 MFA's and 36 faculty members, it is not only logistically difficult for the faculty, but also not helpful to the MFA's to have every faculty member attend every MFA's critique.

        8. Students will all have their Candidacy reviews at the end of their fourth semester, instead of having the option to go earlier or later. Again, standardization of the program.

        9. Instead of having all faculty vote on an individual's candidacy review, the work will be reviewed and voted on by a graduate faculty committee, and a 3/4ths majority will now be required instead of 2/3rd majority. Having 36 faculty members at a student's candidacy review does not allow for a productive conversation.

        10. Students may only attempt to pass their Candidacy Review twice (previously, we had no limit on the amount of re-tries). Students who do not pass the first time are given a detailed written explanation of what they need to do to bring their work up to the expected level of accomplishment.

        11. Deleting the option of an MFA thesis committee member from the criticism area. Art criticism is no longer part of our Art History program (4ab_ARTMFA report).

      28. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Arts and Sciences Dean – CLCSMA – Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies Master of Arts was presented by Luis Restrepo.

Resubmitting after a complete catalog description revision. Edited text for clarity and current usage, specified language proficiency, application process and documents (added cv request). No extra hours or course requirements changes. Added policy to allow presenting theses in a language other than English with proper justification and outlining program and graduate school approval process.(see attached justification). Students had difficulty with previous catalog description for lack of program description clarity. Secondly, we added a language policy that would allow students to present theses in languages other than English, with proper justification and following criteria of peer programs in world languages and literatures (4ac_CLCSMA report, 4ac_CLCS Thesis Dissertations in Target Language Petition.doc).

Jared Pack moved and Kathleen Lehman seconded to delete the following phrase from item 5 of the requirements for the Thesis Option:  “and at the time of submitting the thesis prospectus to the respective committee.” Luis Restrepo supported the motion and the committee approved it.

      29. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Civil Engineering – CVEGMS - Civil Engineering, Master of Science in Civil Engineering was presented by Patricia Koski.

Reduce the number of hours for the course work only option from 36 to 30. To be consistent with other MS Programs in the college (4ad_CVEGMS report).

      30. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Communications – COMMMA – Communication, Master of Arts was presented by Jim Gigantino.

Deleted what had been 5.b. which had read : 4000-level Department of Communication courses that are approved for graduate credit. Students should limit the number of 4000-level courses to no more than six hour. We are moving all 4000 level courses we will accept for graduate level credit to 5000 level numbers. As a result that option is no longer relevant (4ae_COMMMA report).

      31. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of English – ENGLPH – English, Doctor of Philosophy was presented by Jim Gigantino.

We are requesting that ENGL 1023 no longer show under #2, Category B, of the Focused Study in Rhetoric and Composition sub-section, as my edit (above) reflects. ENGL 1023 used to be included in Category B of #2 of the Focused Study in Rhetoric and Composition when it was followed by a parenthetical specifying the technical composition version of that course (considered a separate teaching assignment for doctoral students pursuing this focused study option). That particular version of 1023, however, has now been given its own course number ENGL 1033, which now appears in Category B. Consequently, we no longer need ENGL 1023 to show in Category B, only in Category A (as the regular version of the course) (4af_ENGLPH report).

      32. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of History – HISTMA – History, Master of Arts was presented by Jim Gigantino.

The History department voted to make the following changes to the MA program and admission criteria to the MA and PhD program.

        Admission Criteria:
        (1) Begin to require a writing sample for the MA program
        (2) Require a departmental application---this has been a requirement for several years, just never appeared in the catalog
        (3) Alter the minimum scores on GRE verbal and writing to reflect current practices of admissions decisions
        (4) Add language making clear the department's Graduate Studies Committee makes admissions decisions and the process of those decisions
        (5) Rearranging and cleaning up existing language

        MA Program Change:
        (1) Require students to take 12 hours of research or reading graduate seminars at the 7000-level, up from 9 hours currently required
        (2) Clarify that students need to take at least 9 hours outside of their major field from the 21 hours of seminars and electives, not including the required HIST 7023: Historical Methods course (this is always out of the major field and the department never counted it as part of this outside field requirement)
        (3) Rearranged and cleaned up existing language

        Admission Criteria:
        (1) Department believed that requiring a writing sample for the MA program, since it is research based, would be a better tool for screening applicants and ensuring applicant success.
(2-4) This matches the department's practice over the last several years and accurately indicates its intentions in the catalog.

        MA Program Change
        (1) Department believed that requiring more graduate seminars enhances the quality of graduate education in the department. After conducting a review of peer institutions, the department found it was out of step with other programs. Out of 16 peer programs, only two others required 9 seminar hours. The majority required 12 or 15.
(2-3) This clarifies already existing departmental practice and makes clear intentions in the catalog (4ag_HISTMA report).

      33. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Information Systems – ENTSGC - Enterprise Systems Graduate Certificate was presented by Paul Cronan.

Minor changes to update description and "update catalog;" incorporate new ISYS 5103 Data Analytics Fundamentals course as an elective. Updated online delivery percentage to reflect ADHE approval of 100% in 2014, as well as to reflect the fact that two tracks are currently blended delivery of 50-99% (4ah_ENTSGC report).

      34. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communication Disorders – CNEDPH – Counselor Education and Supervision, Doctor of Philosophy was presented by Kristin Higgins.

Name change from Counselor Education to Counselor Education and Supervision. Update our PhD degree name to more accurately reflect content of the degree plan, align with CACREP (program's accrediting body) requirements, and be consistent with other counseling programs around the country.

Changing three RHAB cognate classes to the subject heading of CNED to reflect that the courses are now offered as part of the overall CNED curriculum. The accrediting bodies for Rehabilitation counseling (CORE) and Counseling (CACREP) have merged and thus the RHAB and CNED programs are merging to meet accreditation standards. The RHAB PhD program was deleted previously so the courses that will be offered with a RHAB focus are being requested to change from RHAB to CNED. These have been requested through course management.

Minor change of hours required in PhD program. Dropping CNED 6083 Consultation Theory and Methods (3) and changing CNED 6711 from a 1 hour course to 3 hour course. Accreditation competencies from CNED 6083 are being met in another course and this course was repeating those standards. Practicum (CNED 6711) meets three hours a week as a course and should be a 3 hour credit class, not 1. This will change the number of hours required on top of the 60 hour MS to be 69 instead of the previous 70 (4ai_CNEDPH report4ai_CNEDPH – Name Change – Ltr of Notification.docx, 4ai_CNEDPH – Revision – Ltr of Notification.docx).

      35. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communication Disorders – CNSLMS – Counseling, Master of Sciencewas presented by Kristin Higgins.

Adding two new concentrations- Addiction Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling. The accreditation bodies for Rehabilitation Counseling and Counseling have merged and will now all be under the umbrella of CACREP (Council for accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Professions). Counseling and Rehabilitation will be merging into one program and we would like to add two new CACREP specialty tracks. One will be in Rehabilitation Counseling which will replace the previously offered Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. We will also be adding one in addictions counseling. This will be the only program of this sort in Arkansas and will be a very marketable program.

Added names for School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentrations. These concentrations have previously existed but I added them so that they will now show up on the transcripts and specify which concentration a student is focusing on.

Changed Core to 36 and concentrations all to 24 hours. To align more closely with our accreditation standards, we have changed our Core courses to 36 hours and made all four concentrations 24 hours. School counseling was previously a 48 hour program, but accreditation standards now require a 60 hour program so we have made this change to the school concentration as well (4aj_CNSLMS report, 4aj_LON E – MS in Counseling – School Counseling Concentration.pdf, 4aj_CNSLMS – Revision LON11C.docx, 4aj_CNSLMS-ADCN – New Option – Ltr of Notification.docx, 4aj_CNSLMS RHAB – New Option – Ltr of Notification.docx, 4aj_Section C School Counseling Licensure ADE CURRENT.docx).

      36. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communication Disorders – RHABMS – Rehabilitation, Master of Science was presented by Kristin Higgins.

Deleting the Rehabilitation Masters program since this program will now be merged with Counseling Masters program and the Rehabilitation focus will be a new concentration in the Counseling Masters program. The professional accrediting entities that oversee academic programs, the Council on Rehabilitation Education, (CORE) and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Programs, (CACREP) have merged; as such, the distinct professions of Rehabilitation Counseling and Counseling no longer exist. Rehabilitation Counseling is now a specialization within the larger profession of Counseling. Commensurately, academic program are henceforth required to mirror this professional merger, rehabilitation counseling programs will no longer be free-standing programs but tracks with larger counseling programs. CACREP will accredit these programs moving forward. To comply with CACREP standards the master’s program in rehabilitation counseling is merging into the master’s program counselor education (4ak_RHABMS report4ak_RHABMS – Deletion – Ltr of Notification.docx).
