⦁ Graduate Council meeting scheduled for August 18, 2022

a. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Department of Animal Science – EQMGUM – Equine Management Undergraduate MicroCertificate presented by Kathi Jogan.

Creation of an undergraduate MicroCertificate in Equine Management comprised of nine hours.

To offer undergraduate students an introduction to the field of equine management and a credential to signal expertise in equine management best practices (4a_eqmgum_report_04222022).

b. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, Department of Landscape Architecture – LARCBS – Landscape Architectural Studies presented by Ethel Goodstein-Murphree.

Program Deactivation.

The Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architectural Studies was created to provide an alternative stream for students interested in Landscape Architecture but who did not aspire to professional practice. Although a required 5- year Program Review in 2016 underscored the utility of the degree as a path for students interests in the natural environment and sustainable practices for its future, enrollment has been disappointing, consistently dropping since that review. Enrollment numbers, provided by the Provost’s Office, have raised questions about the program’s viability and despite efforts to increase enrollment, the program is not producing a sufficient number of graduates annually to justify its continuation. Students seeking alternatives to professional undergraduate programs in the Fay Jones School will be served by the Bachelor of Architecture Studies degree, with provides ample electives hours to allow focus on issues of the land, its planning and stewardship (4b_larcbs_report_04222022, 4c_larcbs_deletion_ltrofnotification_04222022).

c. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Geosciences – HPRV-M – Historic Preservation Minor.  Paul Cronan moved and Kevin Hall seconded to approve the program change without a college/department presenter.

Program Deactivation.

Increasingly, the students interested in this minor are coming from the Fay Jones School of Architecture -- where it should be administered, not in ARSC. Also, since the co-creator of the minor, Tom Green (ANTH), is long retired, the minor has created an unwarranted burden on the remaining co-creator with advising, substitution justifications, and offering the capstone course (GEOS 3033) as a directed readings course to ~1 student each year (4c_hprv-m_report_04222022).

d. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Marketing – MKTGMS – Marketing, Master of Science presented by Alan Ellstrand.

Update admissions policy to reflect the newly approved GSB admissions policy.

Change in core coursework from 21 to 15 hours and a change in elective coursework from 9 to 15 hours to reflect new course offerings with new faculty expertise. total change of 12 hours.

Removed non-MKTG coursework from the elective list.

Update to the comprehensive exam equivalent.

Overall program changes include a greater focus on marketing classes and a simplified program structure.

Addition of MKTG 5343 and MKTG 5333 as core courses. Deletion of MKTG 5553, MKTG 5563, ISYS 5363 as core courses.

Deletion of non-MKTG elective options under the 15 hours and inclusion of new MKTG courses MKTG 5583 and 5413. Removal of language referring to ISYS coursework option.

Updated comprehensive exam course equivalence to MKTG 5333 (4d_mktgms_report_04222022).

e. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Public Policy – QUALGM – Qualitative Inquiry Graduate MicroCertificate presented by Jim Gigantino.

New Graduate MicroCertificate

Adding online/web-based delivery with Dr. Gigantino's approval. S. Kenner

Qualitative Methods are a critical research tool for students across campus. This MicroCertificate will engage students across campus in training in this important research area.
