Chair Lona Robertson called the meeting to order at 2:30 PM.
  1. The minutes for the May 17, 2013 meeting were approved with one correction. The June meeting was cancelled.
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate and School of Law course change proposals (Tables A and Table D) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the September 2013 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. The Graduate and/or Dual course change proposals (Tables B and Table C) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the September Graduate Council meeting.
    3. The Undergraduate “Core” course change proposals (Table E) were approved and will be forwarded for the next University Core Committee meeting.

    1. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture, Department of Architecture - ARCHBA – Bachelors of Architecture (Table One, Attachment 1A, Attachment 1A-1 and Attachment 1A-2) was presented by Mark Boyer. This five-year professional accredited degree is exempt from ACT 747 and there are currently no changes proposed. Please see the Credit Hour Exemption form and degree requirement spreadsheet. The program change was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture, Department of Architecture - ARSTBS – BS, Architectural Studies (Table One, Attachment 1B, Attachment 1B-1 and Attachment 1B-2) was presented by Mark Boyer. The total number of hours required for a BS in Architectural Studies is being reduced to 120 hours in accordance with ACT 747. In the professional core, ARCH 2016, ARCH 2113 and ARCH 2123 are being eliminated and ARCH 1013, ARCH 2132 and ARCH 4523 are being added. The basic program in the arts (21 hours) is being eliminated. Nine hours of Interdisciplinary core is being added where classes are to be taken in LARC and IDES. 24 hours of Concentration/Minor courses are being added. 3000+ Electives outside of the Fay Jones School is increasing from six hours to nine hours. Free electives are increasing from 9 hours to 12 hours. The overall reduction in hours from 124 to 120 is needed to comply with state-wide mandate, Act 747. The program change was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture, Department of Interior Design - IDESBD – BID, Interior Design (Table One, Attachment 1C, Attachment 1C-1 and Attachment 1C-2) was presented by Mark Boyer. This four-year professional accredited degree is exempt from ACT 747 and there are currently no changes proposed. Please see the Credit Hour Exemption form and degree requirement spreadsheet. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture, Department of Landscape Architecture - LARCBL – BLA, Landscape Architecture (Table One, Attachment 1D, Attachment 1D-1 and Attachment 1D-2) was presented by Mark Boyer.     5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fay Jones School of Architecture, Department of Landscape Architecture - LARCBS – BS, Landscape Architectural Studies (Table One, Attachment 1E, Attachment 1E-1 and Attachment 1E-2) was presented by Mark Boyer. Changes proposed are for the Landscape Architectural Studies program core - Eliminated LARC 1211 and LARC 1221; increased LARC 1315 to LARC 1316 and LARC 1325 to LARC 1326, eliminated LARC 1011 and LARC 1021, added LARC 4033; Completion of the Basic Program in the Arts (new total 21) - Substituted 9 hours of interdisciplinary core for 15 hours in the basic arts and 12 hours of upper level Arts and Science courses remained unchanged; eliminated 6 hours of foreign language courses; professional concentration electives and free electives (new total 33); added 3 hours of professional concentration electives - added 3 hours of free electives. These changes reduced the degree semester hours from 124 to 120 in order to comply with ACT 747. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    6. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Walton College Honors Program (Table Two, Attachment 2A) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to modify the business courses Walton College honors students are expected to complete to meet honors criteria due to changes in the curriculum. The existing business courses will no longer be available for new freshmen beginning Fall 2013.The courses that will no longer exist include: WCOB 1012H, WCOB 1023H, WCOB 2013H, WCOB 2033H and WCOB 3016H. Seventeen hours including a minimum of eight hours from the following courses, BLAW 2013H, ECON 2013H, ECON 2023H, WCOB 1033H or WCOB 2053H along with other honors courses from the university core will replace the courses that are no longer being offered. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    7. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, All BSBA degrees, (Table Two, Attachment 2B) was presented by Gary Ferrier. Proposal requested to modify COMM 1313, Public Speaking from being a pre-requisite to WCOB 1033, Data Analysis and Interpretation, to a pre or co-requisite for all of our B.S.B.A. degrees and majors for all ACT 1014, Eight Semester plans. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    8. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Information Systems – ISYSBS – BSBA, Information Systems, Enterprise Systems Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2C) was presented by Gary Ferrier. Proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change “Course Requirements in the Major” for all Concentrations from 18 hours to 24 hours. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    9. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Information Systems – ISYSBS – BSBA, Information Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2D) was presented by Gary Ferrier. Proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change “Course Requirements in the Major” for all Concentrations from 18 hours to 24 hours. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    10. The proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change “Course Requirements in the Major” for all Concentrations from 18 hours to 24 hours.     11. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Economics – BECOBS – BSBA, Business Economics, International Economics Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2F) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to update minor changes to the 8 semester plans to include: Add 3 hours for BLAW 2013 in the Fall Semester of Year 1 and modify the semester total hours to 16; Change Foreign Language hours in Spring Semester Year 1 to 3 hours instead of 4 and modify the semester total hours to 15; and delete Area Studies requirement on Spring Semester Year 3 and move to Fall Semester Year 4 and modify the semester total hours to 16. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    12. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Economics – INTBBB – BSIB, International Business, All Concentrations (Table Two, Attachment 2G) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to modify COMM 1313, Public Speaking from being a pre-requisite to WCOB 1033, Data Analysis and Interpretation, to a pre or co-requisite for all of our B.S.I.B. degrees and concentrations for all ACT 1014, Eight Semester plans. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    13. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Economics – INTBBB – BSIB, International Business, Accounting Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2H) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change course prefix number under “D. International Business and Collateral Course Requirements” – SCMT 4643, International Transportation and Logistics to SCMT 3643, International Transportation and Logistics; Add ACCT 3843, Fundamentals of Taxation to Fall Semester Year 4 8 semester plan; Delete ACCT 3633, Accounting Technology and ACCT 3613, Managerial Uses of Accounting from Spring Semester Year 3 and replace with ACCT 3753, Intermediate Accounting II and a 3 hour Accounting Elective; Delete 3 hours of Fine/Arts and Humanities from Fall Semester Year 4 and replace with 3 hours of Junior/Senior Business Electives; and modify the 6 hours of Junior/Senior Business Electives in Spring Semester Year 4 from 6 to 3 hours making the Total Semester Hours 12 hours instead of 15 hours. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    14. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Economics – INTBBB – BSIB, International Business, Finance Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2I) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Delete 3 hour Finance elective and change International Business and Collateral Elective from 3 to 6 hours in Spring Semester Year 4. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    15. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Management – MGMTBS – BSBA, Management, Organizational Leadership Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2J) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change ECON 4333 from Managerial Economics to the correct name, Economics of Organizations; and to delete ECON 4653, Global Competition and Strategy and ISYS 4263, Information Technology Strategy. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    16. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Sam Walton College of Business, Department of Management – GBUSBS – BSBA, General Business (Table Two, Attachment 2K) was presented by Gary Ferrier. The proposal requested to update minor changes in the new curriculum to include: Change course name for ISYS 4283 from Information Technology Strategy to Business Database Systems. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    17. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Arts and Sciences – Move Administration of – ENDYPH – PhD, Environmental Dynamics to the Graduate School (Table Three, Attachment 3A and Attachment 3A-1) was presented by Pat Koski. This is for information only: The administrative home of the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Environmental Dynamics is being moved from Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences to the Graduate School. This item will be forwarded to the September Faculty Senate as an informational item.
    18. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction – CHEDMA – MAT, Childhood Education, STEM Concentration (Table Three, Attachment 3B) was presented by Janet Penner-Williams. The proposal requested to delete the concentration in STEM which will be an area of study for the degree not a concentration. A graduate certificate will remain available. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    19. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Civil Engineering – ENEGMS – MSEnE, Environmental Engineering (Table Three, Attachment 3C) was presented by Manuel Rossetti. The proposal requested to eliminate the ability for undergraduate students to enter the program with between 72 and 90 hours of undergraduate credit. A baccalaureate degree will be required for admission to the program. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the September Faculty Senate meeting.
