Terry Martin called the meeting to order at 2:33 PM.

  1. The minutes for December 17, 2010 were approved with one correction. 
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate course change proposals ( Table A) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. The Graduate Course Change Proposals ( Table B) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    3. Courses Inactive More than 3 Years to be deleted ( Table C) and Courses Inactive More than 3 Years to remain inactive ( Table D) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    4. Courses with No Enrollment in Last 5 Years to be inactivated  ( Table E) and Courses with No Enrollment in Last 5 Years to remain active ( Table F) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.

    1. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences – Department of Food Science – FDSCBS – BSA, Food Science ( Table One, Attachment 1A and Attachment 1A-1) was requested by the Provost’s Office to be removed from consideration until documentation from NWACC had been obtained. The proposal requested to add a new concentration in Food and Culinary Sciences (FDCU). The proposal was removed from consideration to be resubmitted at a later date.
    2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences – School of Human Environmental Sciences – FHNHBS – BSHES, Food, Human Nutrition and Hospitality – Hospitality & Restaurant Management Concentration ( Table One, Attachment 1B and Attachment 1B-1) was presented by Tim Killian. Proposal requested to add WCOB 1012 and AGME 2903; add three hours of professional courses from HESC 3623, FINN 3623, HESC 4663, HESC 4673, HESC 4683 or HESC4693; add six hours from the departmental codes: ACCT, AGEC, ECON, ISYS, MGMT, TLOG or WCOB. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences – School of Human Environmental Sciences – HDFSBS – BSHES, Human Development, Family Science & Rural Sociology – Child Development Concentration ( Table One, Attachment 1C) was presented by Tim Killian. Proposal requested to remove HESC 4472/4472L Child Development Practicum and lab from the list of required courses, add statistics and research methods requirements (6 hours) and reduce the general electives requirement from 30-36 hours to 28-34 hours. The proposal was tabled until the February UCPC meeting. The proposal lacked a published list of statistics and research methods courses and approvals from other colleges that teach those courses.
    4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Curriculum and Instruction - CHEDBS –BSE, Childhood Education ( Table Two, Attachment 2A) was presented by Heather Kindall. Proposal requested to clarify the admission and progression policy for the Childhood Education BSE degree. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Curriculum and Instruction - ELELBS –BSE, Elementary Education ( Table Two, Attachment 2B and Attachment 2B-1) was presented by Heather Kindall. Proposal requested to make six changes to course and/or curriculum requirements: The first proposed change will remove WLIT as a program requirement and replace it with any three hour Core Humanities.  The second proposed change will remove GEOG 1123 and replace it with any 3 hour Geography course. The third proposed change will remove ETEC 2003 and replace it with any 3 hour Computer course; it is suggested that off campus students take ETEC 2003 and on campus students take CIED 1003.  The fourth proposed change will remove CHED 1003 and replace it with 3 elective hours; it is suggested that off campus students take CHED 1003 and on campus students take an additional science course.  The final proposed change would remove the 2 hours of any wellness based course and replace it with any 3 hour elective course. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    6. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Curriculum and Instruction - ELELBS –BSE, Elementary Education ( Table Two, Attachment 2C) was presented by Heather Kindall. Proposal requested to clarify the admission and progression policy for the Elementary Education BSE degree The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    7. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - KINSBS –BSE, Kinesiology – Exercise Physiology/Biomechanics and Exercise Science Fitness Specialist Concentrations ( Table Two, Attachments 2D, Attachment 2D-1 and Attachment 2D-2) was presented by Susan Mayes. Proposal requested to replace HLSC 1103 Personal Health and Safety with HLSC 1002 (Exercise Science Pre-Professional Concentration in KINSBS); HLSC 2662 Terminology for Health Professions will be added as required in both EXSC concentrations; PEAC 1621 Fitness Concepts will be dropped and elective hours (no longer "selected from or advisor approved - just electives") will be adjusted for the above changes in the KINSBS Major (Pre-Professional Concentration only). In addition to these changes students will be required to take one of the following "neuro-science" classes as part of the required curriculum in KINSBS Major (Pre-Professional Concentration Only): POSC 4923 or PSYC 4183, or BIOL 4793. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    8. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - HLSCBS –BSE, Health Science ( Table Two, Attachments 2E and Attachment 2E-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to change the name of the BSE in Health Science to BSE in Community Health Promotion. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    9. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Eleanor Mann School of Nursing – NURSBS – BSN, Nursing ( Table Two, Attachment 2F) was presented by Kathleen Barta. Proposal requested too many changes to list, please see Attachment 2F Section V for the list. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    10. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - RESMME – MED, Recreation and Sport Management – Recreation Management Concentration ( Table Three, Attachments 3A and Attachment 3A-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to delete the Recreation Management Concentration under the MED in Recreation and Sports Management. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    11. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - RESMME – MED, Recreation and Sport Management – Therapeutic Recreation Concentration (Table Three, Attachments 3B and Attachment 3B-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to delete the Therapeutic Recreation Concentration under the MED in Recreation and Sports Management. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    12. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - RESMME – MED, Recreation and Sport Management ( Table Three, Attachments 3C and Attachment 3C-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to modify the Sport Management Curriculum and delete the concentration. The modified curriculum will become the courses in the M.Ed. Recreation and Sport Management degree program. Specifically, ESRM 6403 Educational Statistics and Data Processing will no longer be listed as an OR course under the required research component. Three courses (RESM 5293 Sport Management, KINS 5753 Sport Psychology, RESM 5463 Sports Facility Management) will be deleted from the required courses, thereby, reducing the required course credit hours from 24 hours to 15 hours. Approved electives will increase from 6 hours to 9 hours and the Capstone Requirement will allow students a choice of Thesis or 6 credit hours of additional coursework including either an Independent Study project or Internship experience. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    13. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - HLSCMS – MS, Health Science ( Table Three, Attachments 3D and Attachment 3D-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to change the name of the MS in Health Science to MS in Community Health Promotion (CHLPMS). The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    14. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - HLSCPH – PHD, Health Science ( Table Three, Attachments 3E and Attachment 3E-1) was presented by Dean Gorman. Proposal requested to change the name of the PHD in Health Science degree to PHD in Community Health Promotion (CHLPPH). The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
  5. Other Business:

    Terry Martin reminded all college deans’ office representatives that the deadline for submission of program changes is normally the second Friday of each month. All supporting documents and college approvals are due no later than the third Friday of each month. When supporting documents have not been received by the third Friday, then the item will not appear on the meeting agenda.
