4. New Business:

The following program change proposals were approved on the CIM Program Report.  The program change proposals will be forwarded for consideration to the Faculty Senate meeting scheduled for April 9, 2025.

a.       Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Communication – COMMBA – Communication, Bachelor of Arts presented by Shane Barker
(4a_commba_report_03212025).

1. Adding a new required Communication course (COMM 49801), making the total number of COMM courses required in the major 37 hours (used to be 36). This new course will meet GELO 6.1.
2. Updating world culture requirement to pull from related area studies programs, expanding the number of options available.
ARSC dean's office has asked that all departments ensure that lists like these refer to a finite list of catalog classes (rather than what has been done in the past where the list of classes is housed outside of the catalog).

b.      Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation – PBHLBS – Public Health, Bachelor of Science presented by Matt Ganio
(4b_pbhlbs_report_03212025).

Added JOUR 10203, PBHL 46203, GEOS 30403, PLSC 20003, PLSC 21003; removed 9 hours of electives. Accreditation criteria are set to change in 2026. The addition of these courses helps the students to better meet the new learning objectives surrounding aspects of environmental health and sustainability, and global health concepts surrounding populations; and legislative and governmental processes relevant to policy and advocacy.

c.       Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Eleanor Mann School of Nursing – PNURS – Nursing (Pre-Nursing/Health) presented by Matt Ganio
(4c_pnurs_report_03212025).

Changed chemistry requirement to clarify that CHEM 12103/12101 and anything higher will be accepted. One of the CHEM courses was listed incorrectly and there was confusion on whether or not higher CHEM courses could be accepted.

d.      Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions, Eleanor Mann School of Nursing – NURSBS-LNBN: Nursing: LPN to BSN Option presented by Matt Ganio
(4d_nursbs-lnbn_report_03212025).

NURS 23303 changed to NURS 32303 in "Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Nursing L.P.N. to B.S.N. Option (NURSBS-LNBN)" and "8 semester plan" tables. The course number for the Pathophysiology for Nurses course has changed from 23303 to 32303 to ensure compliance with the ADHE and accrediting requirements.

Added wording to clarify that the admissions committee will review applicant packets. Previous wording indicated a review but did not specify how the review would occur which has caused challenges when applications are questionable.

Removed language indicated a fall and spring start date and referred applicants to the website with start date information.
Fall and Spring start dates are not guaranteed every semester.

Adding requirement for CASPER exam.
We would like to use Casper to assess the candidates' responses to interpersonal and professional dilemmas using reasoning and social interpretation, to use this as part of the requirements to assess suitability for the BSN program. This is consistent with the requirements for the PLRN BSN option.

 5.  Additional Items / Announcements:

·         Chair Kevin Hall brought up a request from the Provost’s Office to discuss how the agenda and minutes are presented on the Council’s website in light of new EIT guidance from the federal government.  The new regulation requires all websites across the university to be accessible to screen readers within the next two years, and the practice of posting PDF files poses a significant obstacle in meeting this requirement.  The Council was asked to consider two changes:  a) retaining only three years of agendas/minutes on the website (with all PDFs being converted to an accessible version) and archiving the remaining years and b) posting links to CourseLeaf program proposals for the agenda/minutes going forward instead of posting PDFs.

The Council was amenable to both proposed changes.  However, there were questions regarding how archiving would work—where the minutes/agendas will be housed, who will have access, how to access, etc. A follow-up discussion is set for next month’s UC meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:58 p.m.

Next Meeting: April 25, 2025 (agenda deadline is April 11, 2025).
