  1. a. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, – BENGBS – BSBE, Biological Engineering ( Table One, Attachments 1A and 1A-1) was presented by Tom Costello. The proposal requested eight changes to the BENGBS: 1) Eliminate options (concentrations): biomedical, ecological, biotechnology; 2) Add eight new required BENG Courses; 3) Add three other required courses: CVEG 3223, Hydrology, ELEG 3903, Electric Circuits Machines and BIOL 3863/61L, General Ecology w/ Lab; 4) Eliminate eight currently required Courses: BENG 2612, Design Studio II, BENG 2622, Design Studio III, BENG 3104, Instrumentation, BENG 3712, Properties of Biological Materials, BENG 3803, Mechanical Design in Biological Engineering, BENG 4733, Kinetics and Transport Phenomena, GNEG 1122, Intro to CAD, MEEG 3013, Mechanics of Materials; 5) Make Adjustment to Electives: BENG Design Electives: 6 hours eliminated, Engineering Electives: 6 hours reduced to 3 hours, Technical Electives:6 hours reduced to 3 hours; 6) No longer require 6 hours of upper level Humanities/Fine Arts and Social Sciences, but will require 18 hour University core in the areas of Fine Arts/Humanities, U.S. History and Social Sciences, as per recent College of Engineering decision; 7) Allow either [CHEM 1103 OR CHEM 1113 (Chemistry for Engineers I)] and [CHEM 1123/1121L OR CHEM 1133/1131L (Chemistry for Engineers II)] for degree credit; 8) Eliminate the allowable substitution of BIOL 2533/2531L (Cell Biology w/Lab) for BIOL 2013/2011L (Microbiology). All students must now take Microbiology. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the February Faculty Senate agenda.
  2. b. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, – CHEGBS – BSChE, Chemical Engineering ( Table One, Attachment 1B) was presented by Bill Springer. The proposal requested eight changes to be made to the CHEGBS. (1) Change the eight hour requirement of upper elective chemistry electives to six hours. (2) A course in biochemistry will be required (either CHEM 3813 or CHEM 4813H). (3) Eliminate MEEG 3013 and MEEG 2003 from the curriculum. (4) Add a new introductory course in materials (CHEG 3713). (6) Eliminate CHEG 2221 from the curriculum. (7) CHEM 1103 will be required. (8) Renumber CHEG 1123 to CHEG 2123 because it is now in the second year of the eight semester plan. These changes will not result in the addition of hours, currently at 132, to the CHEGBS. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the February Faculty Senate meeting.
  3. c. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, – CVEGBS – BSCE, Civil Engineering ( Table One, Attachment 1C) was presented by Bill Springer. The proposal requested to reduce BSCE program from 132 to 128 credit hours. Specific changes include: (1) Remove BSCE requirement for CHEM 1133/1131L, University Chemistry for Engineers II; (2) (a) Remove BSCE requirement for MATH 2574 (Calculus III); (b) Add BSCE requirement for MATH 3083 (Linear Algebra); (3) Add BSCE requirement for new course, CVEG 2002, Introduction to Plans and CADD; (4) Add BSCE requirement for new course CVEG 3131L, Soil Mechanics Laboratory; (5) Remove BSCE requirement for Science Elective; (6) Remove BSCE requirement for CVEG 4313, Structural Steel Design; (7) Reduce credit hours for CVEG 4852, Professional Practice Issues; revised course number CVEG 4851; (8) Increase credit hours for Civil Engineering Design Elective courses (4811; 4821; 4831; 4841); revised courses 4812; 4822; 4832; 4842. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded to the February Faculty Senate meeting.
  4. d. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions and the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences – All Pre-Teaching Majors ( Table Two, Attachment 2A) was presented by Janet Penner-Williams. Local school districts are requiring all student teaching interns to complete a background check before being placed. In order to continue placing interns in local schools, we must comply with this requirement. This change will impact all teacher education programs in the College of Education and Health Professions, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences. Specifically, all students completing a teaching internship (CIED 4173, CIED 508V, CIED 514V, CIED 528V, CIED 5016, CATE 406V, PHED 407V, AGED 475V, ARED 476V, MUED 451V), school counseling internship (CNED 574V, CNED 674V), and coaching practicum (PHED 4001) in a P-12 school setting will complete a background check to comply with local school district requirements. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the February Graduate Council meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:04 PM.
