Chuck Adams called the meeting to order at 2:33 PM.

  1. The minutes for August 12, 2011 were approved without corrections.
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate course change proposals ( Table A) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. The Graduate course change proposals ( Table B) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Graduate Council meeting.

  4. New Business:
    1. Proposed undergraduate change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Arts and Sciences Dean – IRELBA – BA, International Relations ( Table One, Attachment 1A) for information only was presented by Chuck Adams. The proposal requested to have six new sub-plan codes to track students who choose to pursue one of the six proposed tracks for a BA in International Relations. The sub-plan codes requested for attachment to all IREL major codes are: GNRL (Generalist), ISEC (International Security), IECD (International Economics and Development), FENG (Food, the Environment and Geography in International Relations), PCID (Peoples, Cultures and Identities in Global Context), and USAW (United States in the World) .The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Proposed undergraduate change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of History – AP Scores for Credit ( Table One, Attachment 1B) was presented by Chuck Adams. The proposal requested to change catalog copy concerning the minimum scores on AP exams in History (currently on page 45 of the 2011-2012 catalog). On September 2, 2011, the Department of History voted unanimously not to accept minimum scores of 3 on AP exams in U.S. and European history. Furthermore, the Department believes that students must have a 5 on their AP exam in U.S. History in order to receive credit for both HIST 2003 and HIST 2013.The proposal was tabled until the Arts and Sciences faculty could vote on the change.
    3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – CHEDBS – BSE, Childhood Education ( Table Two, Attachment 2A) was presented by Heather Kindall. The proposed change would remove CIED 4423, Teaching a 2nd Language, as a program requirement for the ESL endorsement area and replace it with CIED 4403, Understanding Cultures. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering and Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering – CSCEBA – BA, Computer Science and CSCE-M, Minor in Computer Science ( Table Three, Attachment 3A, Attachment 3A-1 and Attachment 3A-2) was presented by Chuck Adams. The proposal requested that the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science degree and the Minor in Computer Science be moved from Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences to the College of Engineering. The proposal was tabled until the change could be presented to the Fulbright Arts and Science faculty as an informational item. The Engineering Curriculum Committee had already approved the change.
    5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Walton College of Business – Department of Economics - INTBBB – BSIB, International Business ( Table Four, Attachment 4A and Attachment 4A-1) was presented by Karen Boston. Proposal requested to change the name of the existing concentration for the Bachelor of Science in International Business with a concentration in Transportation and Logistics to the Supply Chain Management concentration. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    6. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Walton College of Business – Department of Marketing and Department of Supply Chain Management – Alpha Code change for Transportation and Logistics courses ( Table Four, Attachment 4B) was presented by Karen Boston. Proposal requested to change the existing alpha code for the Transportation and Logistics courses (TLOG) to the new departmental code of Supply Chain Management (SPCM). The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    7. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Walton College of Business – Department of Marketing and Department of Supply Chain Management – TRNSBS – BSBA, Transportation, WTLG-M – Minor for Business Students and TRNS-M – Minor for Non-Business Students ( Table Four, Attachment 4C. Attachment 4C-1, Attachment 4C-2, Attachment 4C-3 and Attachment 4C-4) was presented by Karen Boston. Proposal requested to move the BSBA major, minor for business majors and minor for non-business majors in Transportation from the Department of Marketing to the Department of Supply Chain Management and to change the names from Transportation to Supply Chain Management. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Faculty Senate meeting.
    8. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders - WDEDME – MED, Workforce Development ( Table Five, Attachment 5A and Attachment 5A-1) for information only was presented by Claretha Hughes. The Adult Education concentration has created a new program, Adult and Lifelong Learning, and moved from WDED, the degree needs to reflect the name of the current single concentration, Human Resource and Workforce Development Education. The proposal requested to change the name from Workforce Development to Human Resource and Workforce Development Education. This name change does not affect any other program. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Graduate Council meeting.
    9. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders - WDEDED – EDD, Workforce Development ( Table Five, Attachment 5B and Attachment 5B-1) for information only was presented by Claretha Hughes. The Adult Education area of interest created a new program and moved from WDED, the degree needs to reflect the name of the current area of interest, Human Resource and Workforce Development Education. The name change does not affect any other program. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded for the October 2011 Graduate Council meeting
  5. Other Items for Consideration:
    The committers wanted some clarification on whether the faculties at the college level need notification when programs, degrees and minors are moved from one college or department to another. Pat Koski will request that Provost Gaber provide further information and direction concerning matter.
