Chair Lona Robertson called the meeting to order at 2:31 PM.
  1. The minutes for the December 13, 2013 meeting were approved with no corrections.
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate course change proposals (Table A) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2014 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Graduate and/or Dual course change proposals (Table B and Table C) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the February 2014 Graduate Council meeting.
  3. Old Business:

    Two items tabled from October 2013 UCPC meeting:

    1. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Graduate School and International Education – STATMS– MS, Statistics (Table 2, Attachment 2A, Attachment 2A-1 and Attachment 2A-2) was removed from the table and presented by Pat Koski. Following considerable discussion and the requirement that the wording in the document be amended to remove the PhD information, the proposal was unanimously approved and will be forwarded for consideration during the February 2014 Graduate Council meeting.
    2. Pat Koski announced that the proposed graduate program change for the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Graduate School and International Education – STANPH – PhD, Statistics and Analytics was being withdrawn at this time and would be resubmitted at a later date.
  4. New Business:
    1. Proposed graduate program change for the Graduate School and International Education – MEPHMS – MS, Microelectronics-Photonics (Table 1, Attachment 1A) was presented by Pat Koski. The proposal requested to: (1) Modify undergraduate pre-requisite course list to include alternative classes for an introduction to quantum mechanics. (2) Change the curriculum defining the non-thesis MS degree to reduce course hours by three hours and to more highly specify specific courses required in the degree. (3) Modify the requirement for MEPH 5611 Research Communication seminar to exclude non-traditional students working more than 20 hours per week in local technical positions. The proposal was unanimously approved and will be forwarded for consideration at the February 2014 Graduate Council meeting.
  5. Other Business:

    None
