In the absence of Chuck Adams, Chair, Terry Martin, called the meeting to order at 2:30 PM.
  1. The minutes for April 27, 2012 were approved without corrections.
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate course change proposals with the exception of two courses, SPCM 3633 and SPCM 3653 ( Table A) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the September 2012 Faculty Senate meeting. The two courses, SPCM3633 – Behavioral Supply Chain and SPCM 3653 – Retail Supply Chain Analysis, did not have completed syllabi in the Course Change Facility. The courses were tabled until the June meeting and Javier Reyes will have the Course Change Facility revised to reflect a more complete description of the course requirements before the June UCPC meeting.
    2. The Graduate and Dual course change proposals ( Table B and Table C) were approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the June 2012 Graduate Council meeting.
  3. Old Business:
    • None
  4. New Business:
    1. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering – BENGBS – BSBE, Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering ( Table One, Attachment 1A) was presented by Terry Martin. The proposal requested three specific changes to the BENGBS: 1) Eliminate requirement for CHEM 3813, Introductory Biochemistry. 2) Eliminate requirement for BIOL 3861L, General Ecology Lab. 3) Add requirement for BIOL 1543/1541L, Principles of Biology and Lab. The General Ecology Lab course had been a deficiency requirement and a co-requisite for the required course, BENG 2632.
Four hours of other science requirements are being eliminated to keep the total of 128 hours for the degree. This change is not expected to significantly affect any other programs. The Chair of Biological Sciences was consulted and gave consent. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded to the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering – CHEGBS – BSChE, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering ( Table One, Attachment 1B) was presented by Terry Martin. There were five changes to be made to the CHEGBS. (1) Require GNEG 1111 and GNEG 1121. (2) No longer require ELEG 3903 (it can be taken as a Technical Elective). (3) Replace the current requirement of six hours of Technical Electives with a requirement of three hours of Technical Electives or three hours of Advanced Science Electives. (Note that this change does not change two other requirements: three hours of Advanced Science Electives and three hours of Advanced Science or Chemical Engineering Electives.). (4) Renumber CHEG 1113 to CHEG 2113 and CHEG 1212L to CHEG 2212L because these courses are now in the second year of the official eight semester plan. (5) Change the chemistry requirements to require CHEM 1113, CHEM 1133, and CHEM 1131L (in place of CHEM 1103, CHEM 1123, and CHEM 1121L). These changes will result in reducing the number of hours in the eight semester plan from 132 to 128 semester hours. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded to the September Faculty Senate meeting.
    3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering – INEGBS – BSIE, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering ( Table One, Attachment 1C) was presented by Terry Martin. There were four proposed changes: 1) The INEG department requires ECON 2143 as one of its university core social science electives. The proposed change allows students to take ECON 2143 or (ECON 2013 and ECON 2023) to meet the INEG requirement in economics. 2) The College of Engineering has requested that all engineering departments have no more than 128 credit hours. To meet this requirement, the INEG department has dropped one credit hour from INEG 2102, creating INEG 2001 Industrial Engineering Seminar. 3) The INEG department dropped its engineering science elective of (MEEG 2303 or MEEG 2013 or MEEG 3013) from the 6th semester and replaced it with the modified INEG 2102 course, INEG 2103 Introduction to Industrial Engineering in the 3rd semester. 4) The INEG engineering science elective has been changed from (CHEG 2133 or MEEG 2403 or CHEG 2313) to (MEEG 2403 or CHEG 2313).
The changes for INEG 2001 and INEG 2103 have been submitted through the curriculum change form process. To accommodate the changes to these courses the INEG science elective moves to the 3rd semester and the INEG requirement of CSCE 2004 moves to the 4th semester. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded to the September Faculty Senate meeting.
  5. Other Business:
  • Terry Martin announced that the new administrative committee member from the College of Engineering for the 2012-13 academic year would be Norm Dennis, the interim College of Engineering Associate Dean while Terry Martin will become the interim College of Engineering Dean.
  • Other announcements were that a new committee chair would need to be elected at the June UCPC meeting and that the July and August meetings would be combined and occur on August 10, 2012 at 2:30 PM.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:11PM.
